Lesson Descriptions

I offer several ways to help you improve your game; an individual lesson, a series of lessons, group lessons and playing lessons, all of which are available to men, women and juniors of all ages and skill levels.

An individual lesson is a single lesson lasting 45 minutes. This is ideal for a player who understands the game, but is having difficulty with one aspect of his or her game. It is not recommended for beginners or players who need help with more than one area of their game.

A series of 5 lessons is a nice option for a player who is having trouble with more than one area of their game or for a beginner to be introduced to the game. In a series I will analyze your swing over the course of the series using video analysis, which will allow each student to see the progress he or she is making. I will video your swing during most lessons, which can be accessed through volkergolf.com for private review at any time and help with each student’s practice sessions between lessons.   New for 2010, the fifth lesson in each series will be a 3-hole playing test.  This test will consist of 1 par 5, 1 par 4 and 1 par 3.  All aspects of your game that were covered during the previous four lessons will be put to the test on the golf course.

A group lesson of two to four people can serve several purposes. A group lesson is great for couples or ladies who are just beginning to play. The group atmosphere can relieve some nervousness an individual might feel during a one-on-one lesson with an instructor. A group lesson is also a great option for players who don’t play golf on a regular basis, but need a “refresher” before going on a golf trip or playing in a corporate outing or charity event. I offer a group lesson that can focus on any aspect of the game that the group desires. Group lessons can be arranged to accommodate up to 4 players of any skill level and any amount of lessons and any amount of time.

I offer both 1 and 2-hour playing lessons to help my students make that transition from the practice tee to the golf course. I recommend playing lessons after taking at least one individual lesson because the playing lesson should not focus on correcting swing mechanics, but rather improving a player’s thought process and strategy on the golf course.

My Summer Short Game Series will start in May of 2010. This will be a group lesson of 2 to 4 people. Groups of men, women or mixed groups are welcome. This series will meet once a week for four weeks for two hours per day. With a small group and two hours to work, we will concentrate heavily on putting, chipping, pitching and greenside bunkers. Anyone may form their own group or can be paired individually with another group. The group is free to determine what time and day is best for them.

Weekly Clinics are held for golf members and residents of Heritage Highlands only. Weekly clinics start the first week of November and run through the last week of March. Clinics are held on Wednesdays for women and Thursdays for men and usually last about an hour and a half. Every week we will cover a different topic. Topics include: drivers, fairway woods & hybrids, irons, pitching, chipping, putting, greenside bunkers, trouble lies & specialty shots and the rules of golf.
